Shiai Rules

At this time, we are planning to implement the provisional shiai rules as established by the All Japan Kendo Federation. Please see the Provisional COVID-19 Rules section for more details.

Policy and Procedures Appendix B section 15.02.00 states: All competitors must be on the registration census of the member in good standing one year prior to the tournament and their dues paid by March 31st of the tournament year.

Competitors in the following divisions must be a registered AUSKF member in good standing for three (3) years prior to the date of the 2023 AUSKF National Championships: Men’s Individual, Men's Team, Women’s Individual, Women's Team.

All individual championships will utilize a “double-elimination” seeding format in which each player participates in an initial “seeding” round to determine their placement (either first or second) in the championship round. In the case of an odd number of participants, we have created 3-person “pools” to provide every competitor with the opportunity to participate in a seeding round before the elimination tournament. See the rules pdf linked below for details.

In addition to what is listed above, please refer to the linked PDF for all rules including time limits, nito and jodan restrictions, and tie-breaker procedures: 2023 AUSKF Championships Rules and Regulations.

Food and beverages

Bento boxes can be pre-ordered for each of the three days of competition (Friday - Sunday). Each bento costs $15 per day (e.g. a competitor requesting a bento for all three days will pay $45 for bento). Beverages will not be provided.

Shinai Check-In

Competitor's shinais for the AUSKF National Championships must be inspected and certified before the competition to ensure they meet a specific set of requirements. Please refer to this PDF that describes all measurements that will be verified by the shinai check-in staff.
